χεῖρον (comparitive of κακός; derived from the obsolete χερης, which has been preserved in the dative χερηι, accusative χερηα, plural χερεης, χερηα; cf. Alexander Buttmann (1873) Ausf. Spr. i., p. 268 (cf. Ebeling, Lex. Homer under the word χερης) (from Homer down), worse: γίνεται τά ἔσχατα χείρονα τῶν πρώτων, εἰς τό χεῖρον ἔρχεσθαι (to grow worse), of one whose illness increases, ἵνα μή χεῖρον σοι τί γένηται, lest some worse thing befall thee, πόσῳ χειρῶν τιμωρία (A.
