A chorus-leader, like the later κορυφαῖος, θεοὺς συγχορευτάς τε καὶ χορηγοὺς ἡμῖν δεδωκέναι τόν τε Ἀπόλλωνα καὶ τὰς Μούσας Pl.Lg.665a: generally, leader of a train or band, πῦρ πνεόντων χ. ἄστρων, of Dionysus, S.Ant.1147 (lyr.); χ. δελφίνων E.Hel. 1454 (lyr.).
