Frisk Etymology German

σαπέρδης: -ου,
{sapérdēs}
Grammar: m.
Meaning: N. eines Fisches, der mit κορακῖνος und πλατίστακος identifiziert und aus dem Nil, dem Schwarzen Meere aber auch aus anderen Gewässern erwähnt wird (Hp., Kom. usw.).
Derivative: Davon σαπερδίς (Arist.; richtig?), -ιον (Apollod. ap. Ath.).
Etymology : Fremdwort. Thompson Fishes s. v. (wo ausführliche Behandlung) erinnert an arab. ṣabār, kopt. šabouri, N. eines bekannten Nil flsches, Tilapia nilotica. Lautlich näher liegt der lyd. PN Sa-par-da-a-a (Grošelj Živa Ant. 7, 43), über dessen eventuelle Beziehung zum Fischnamen σαπέρδης indessen nichts verlautet.
