ἀηδής -ές [ἀ-, ἦδος Lesb. acc. ἀυάδην, n. αὐᾱδες
1. onaangenaam, weerzinwekkend:. τὸ... ἡδέως ζῆν ἀγαθόν, τὸ δ’ ἀηδῶς κακόν een aangenaam leven leiden is goed, een onprettig leven leiden is slecht Plat. Prot. 351b; ᾄδειν οὐκ ἀηδῶς niet onprettig zingen (d.w.z. best goed zingen) Plut. Cim. 9.1.
2. adv. ἀηδῶς ook met weerzin of tegenzin: vaak οὐκ ἀηδῶς niet ongaarne, zonder tegenzin:; καὶ ταῦτ’ ἂν... οὐκ ἀηδῶς σου ἤκουον ook die dingen zou ik best graag van je horen Plat. Prot. 335c; τοῦτο ἤκουσεν οὐκ ἀηδῶςΣύλλας dat hoorde Sulla niet ongaarne Plut.
