Bedeutung ist die Bewegung<b class="b2"> nach Etwas hinein</b>. – 1) am häufigsten von Ländern bei den Verbis, die eine Bewegung ausdrücken, von Hom. an überall. Nach griechischer Weise steht oft der Name der Einwohner für das Land, εἰς τοὺς Καρδούχους ἐμβάλλειν Xen. An. 3, 6, 16; ἄγειν εἰς τοὺς βαρβάρους 1, 3, 5, wo Krüger zu vgl.; εἰς Πέρσας πορεύεσθαι Cyr. 8, 5, 20; πέμπειν εἰς τοὺς Βοιωτούς Thuc. 5, 32. – Damit ist zu vgl. die bei den Rednern häufige Vrbdg ἰόντες εἰς ὑμᾶς, Antipho 5, 80; Lycurg. 11; γραφεὶς τὸν ἀγῶνα τοῦτον εἰς ὑμᾶς εἰσῆλθον Dem. 18, 103; vgl. 28, 17; εἰς τὸν δῆμον παρελθεῖν Thuc. 5, 45; εἴ τις εἰσίοι γραφὴν εἰς [[δικαστήριον]] Aesch. 3, 191; überall an die Volks- oder Richterversammlung als den Ort zu denken, in den man eintritt. H. 7, 8; εἰς τὸ [[πρυτανεῖον]] ἐσιτεῖτο Heliod. 1, 10; Gramm. citiren mit ζήτει εἰς τὸ [[δεῖνα]], z. B. ζήτει εἰς τὰ [[ἐπάνω]], d. h. »siehe oben«, also = ζήτει ἐν τοῖς [[ἐπάνω]]. – 3) Nicht das Eindringen in einen Ort, sondern nur die <b class="b2">Richtung wohin</b> bezeichnet es bei Xen. An. 4, 7, 2 ἀφίκοντο εἰς [[χωρίον]], wo sie nicht hineinkommen, wie εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἥλλοντο Cyr. 1, 4, 11; τὸ εἰς Παλλήνην [[τεῖχος]], dahin gelegen, Thuc. 1, 56; vgl. 5, 82 u. or ἐς, PREP. WITH ACC. ONLY:—both forms are found in Hom., Ion. poets, and early metrical Inscrr.; ἐς is best attested in Hdt. and Hp., and is found in nearly all early Ion. Inscrr. (exc. IG12(8).262.16 (Thasos, v B. C.), ib.7.235.1 (Oropus, iv B. C.)); εἰς in Att. Inscrr. from iv B. C., IG2.115, etc.; and usu. in Att. Prose (exc. Th.) and Com. (exc. in parody): Trag. apptly. prefer εἰς, but ἐς is used before vowels metri gr.; ἐς was retained in the phrases ἐς κόρακας (whence the Verb σκορακίζω) , ἐς μακαρίαν. Aeol. poets have εἰς before vowels, ἐς before consonants, and this is given as the rule in Hom. by An.Ox. 1.172, cf. Hellad. ap. Phot.Bibl.p.533B. (Orig. ἐνς, as in IG4.554.7 (Argos), GDI4986.11 (Crete); cf. ἐν, ἰν. The diphthong is genuine in Aeol. εἰς, but spurious in Att.-Ion.) Radical sense

Bedeutung ist die Bewegung nach Etwas hinein. – 1) am häufigsten von Ländern bei den Verbis, die eine Bewegung ausdrücken, von Hom. an überall. Nach griechischer Weise steht oft der Name der Einwohner für das Land, εἰς τοὺς Καρδούχους ἐμβάλλειν Xen.
