I a kind of urn used in drawing lots. It was made narrow at the top, so that but one lot at a time could be on the surface of the water with which it was partly filled, Plaut. sitella, ae, f. (Demin. v. situla), ein Gefäß mit engem Halse und weitem Bauche, zum Losen gebraucht, in der Art, daß man es mit Wasser füllte, dann die hölzernen Lose hineinwarf und darauf das Gefäß schüttelte, so daß wegen des engen Halses allemal nur ein Los obenauf schwamm, das dann herausgenommen wurde, der Lostopf, die Stimmurne, Plaut.
