Pass. ἐπειράσθην LXXWi. 11.9, Ev.Matt.4.1 : pf. part. πεπειρασμένος Ep.Hebr. 4.15 :—make proof or trial of, c. gen., Od. 16.319.23.114 : abs., 9.281.    2 c. inf., attempt to do, Plb. 2.6.9, LXX Jd.6.39, Act.Ap. 16.7, 24.6 ; π. τι attempt a thing, ἄλλος ἄλλην ἐπ' ἐμὲ πειράζει τέχνην Luc.
