ή, όν (formed from πολύς on the analogy of εἰκοστός, τριακοστός, etc.),

   A far on in the ordinal series first, second, third, etc., π. ὢν Συρακοσίων καὶ τῷ γένει καὶ τῇ δόξῃ, i. e. far from the most eminent of the Syracusans, Isoc.5.65; κίνησις . . δευτέρα τε καὶ ὁπόσων ἀριθμῶν βούλοιτο ἄν τις ἀριθμεῖν αὐτὴν πολλοστὴν τοσούτων, i.e. infinitely less important, Pl.Lg.896b; πότερον . . τὰ σκληρότατα . . ἢ . . τὰ πολλοστὰ σκληρότητι; things far down in descending order of hardness, Id.Phlb.44e; αἱ π. ἡδοναί, opp. αἱ ἀκρόταται καὶ σφοδρόταται, ibid.
