Etymology : Wegen der Bed. am ehesten als Fremd- wort zu betrachten. Die von Curtius 248 und von Brugmann Grundr.2 I 529, Gramm.4 126 als unsichere Hypothese ("vielleicht") vorgeschlagene Anknüpfung an ὕδωρ usw. (aus *ὕδλος) ist in der folgenden Lit. meist ohne jede Reserve wiedergegeben worden. Vgl. noch W.-Hofmann s. lutra.
