(from <b class="b2">coc(h)lea</b>) as backformation [[κοχλιάριον]] `[[spoon]], also as measure (Dsc., medic.); orig. name of a spoon, of which the sharp end was used to draw the snail from its shell; cf. W.-Hofmann s. <b class="b2">coc(h)lear</b>. Connection with [[κόγχος]], [[κόγχη]] (s. v.) is evident; it has (Pre-Greek) prenasalization. Note also the vowel-variation in [[κόχλαξ]]\/ <b class="b3">κά-</b>.
