The formally attractive connection with <b class="b3">κίνδαξ</b>, <b class="b3">ὀνο-κίνδιος</b> (which does not belong to <b class="b3">κινεῖν</b>! s.s.v.) from Prellwitz Wb., Vendryes REGr. 25, 461f., who compare further Lat. <b class="b2">solli-citus</b> <b class="b2">be in danger</b>) gives semantically only one theoretical possibility. Hypothetical is also the proposal by Schulzes (in Sittig KZ 52, 207f.; agreeing a. o. Schwyzer 335, Specht KZ 66, 5), that <b class="b3">κίνδυνος</b> is an old expression of the game of dices with assimilation for <b class="b3">*κύν-δυ-νος</b>, from <b class="b3">κύων</b> as designation of an unsuccesful throw (as Skt. <b class="b2">śvan-</b>, Lat. [[canis]]; cf. on <b class="b3">Κανδαύλης</b>) and a word for <b class="b2">dice, -game</b> in Skt. <b class="b2">dī́vyati</b> [[dice]], <b class="b2">dyūtá-</b> n. <b class="b2">-game</b>; both phonetically and morphologically doubtfull, s.
