Lex. s. <b class="b3">ἀλαός</b>, Fick 1, 120). - Notable proposal by Leumann Hom. Wörter 233 ff.: <b class="b3">ὀξὺ λάων</b> (h. Merc.) <b class="b2">crying loudly</b> innovation after <b class="b3">ὀξὺ λεληκώς</b> (<b class="b3">κίρκος</b> X 141; in <b class="b3">λε-λη-κώς</b> wrongly split; s. <b class="b3">λάσκω</b>), then as <b class="b2">sharp seeing</b> interpreted, partly connected with a barking dog.
