[[bowing]] (from where first [[willow]]?) as <b class="b3">τυ-</b>deriv. of a verb [[bow]], [[twist]] in Lat. [[viēre]] [[bind]], [[twist]], Skt. <b class="b2">vyáyati</b> [[wind]], [[wrap]], [[envelop]], ptc. <b class="b2">vītá-</b> (cf. <b class="b3">Ϝῖ-ρις</b>, <b class="b3">Ϝι-τέα</b>), Lith. <b class="b2">vejù</b>, <b class="b2">výti</b>, ptc. <b class="b2">výtas</b> (= Skt. <b class="b2">vītá-</b>), Slav., e. g. Russ. <b class="b2">vjú</b>, <b class="b2">vítь</b> [[turn]], [[wind]]. With <b class="b3">Ϝίτυς</b> agrees exactly Lat. [[vitus]] [[felloe]] (with [[vitūtus]] <b class="b2">provided with a felloe</b> (concluded from <b class="b3">βιτωτός</b> Ed. Diocl.), but rather as a loan (W.-Hofmann s. v.). Also elsewhere there are traces of <b class="b2">tu-</b>derivv. both in Greek and in Balto-Slavic: <b class="b3">ἰτέα</b>, <b class="b3">οἶσος</b>; OPr. [[witwan]] [[willow]], OCS <b class="b2">větvь</b>, Russ. <b class="b2">vítvina</b> [[twig]], [[rod]]; direct connection with <b class="b3">ἴτυς</b> is however doubtful, cf.
