1) жесткость, неподатливость (τοῦ χαλινοῦ Xen.);
2) резкость, суровость: τὰ σκληρὰ πατρός Soph. отцовское проклятие; σκληρὰ μαλθακῶς λέγειν погов. Soph. мягко выражаться о суровом.
II adv. резко, сильно (βροντᾶν Hes.).
