such friends have the semblance not the reality (of friendship) who are not friends in time of trouble: V. ὄνομα γὰρ ἔργον δ' οὐκ ἔχουσιν οἱ φίλοι οἱ μὴ 'πι ταῖσι συμφοραῖς ὄντες φίλοι (Euripides, Orestes 454).
