   A stretched or strained over, esp. of the membrane which contains the lower viscera, τοῦ π. χιτῶνος ἢ ὑμένος ἢ σκεπάσματος Gal.UP4.9 :—freq. as Subst. περιτόναιον, τό, Hp.Epid.7.20, Gal. l.c., 18(1).164, etc.; περιτόναιος, ὁ, Cels.4.1.13.    II περιτόναιον, τό, = ἐντερονεία, Poll.1.92, cf. περίτονος 11 ; but    2 περιτόναια, τά, projecting beams at the stern of a ship, ib.89.
