A make wise, instruct, inform, τινα A.Pr.337, S. Ant.754, Tr.52, E.Ion526 (troch.); φρενώσω δ' οὐκέτ' ἐξ αἰνιγμάτων, i.e. will teach plainly, A.Ag.1183; poet. Verb, used by X.Mem.4.1.5; φ. τινὰ εἴς τι ib.2.6.1:—Pass., Phld.Lib.p.52 O.; πεφρενωμένος Luc. Lex.19; φρενωθῆναι οὐδὲ πρὸς αὐτῆς τῆς Ἀθηνᾶς Jul.Or.7.225b. II Pass., to be high-minded, elated, LXX 2 Ma.11.4, Babr.101.5. III φ. is prob. a late spelling of φρονῶν (v. φρονέω IV fin.) in the phrase ζῶν καὶ φρενῶν.
