Etymology: Prop. the benewolent, personifying substantive of εὔφρων; cf. `Ηγεμόνη surname of Artemis (Call.) and PN like Ήριγόνη, Ήπιόνη; also Μναμόνα (Ar. Lys. 1248) for Μνημοσύνη; δυσφρονέων (gen. pl.) v. l. for -οσυνέων Hes. Th. 102. Cf. Sommer Nominalkomp. 145 w. n. 1, where the idea of Bechtel (Dial. 3, 299; cf. Schwyzer 461, 490 and 529), εύφρόνη shortened from εὑφροσύνη, is rightly rejected. - Further s. φρήν.
