Met., fade away: P. and V. μαραίνεσθαι (Plat.), φθίνειν (Plat.), V. ἀποφθίνειν, καταφθίνειν, P. ἀπομαραίνεσθαι (Plat.); see wither. Come to nothing: P. and V. διαρρεῖν, ἀπορρεῖν. Lose courage: P. and V., ἀθυμεῖν. Abate: P. and V. λωφᾶν, ἀνιέναι; see abate. Be weighed down: P. and V. βαρύνεσθαι.
