Daring: P. and V. τόλμα, ἡ. Lacking in initiative, adj.: P. and V. ἄτολμος. Since the initiative always rests with them: P. ἐπʼ ἐκείνοις ὄντος ἀεὶ τοῦ ἐπιχειρεῖν (Thuc. 3, 12). On his own initiative: P. ἀφʼ ἑαυτοῦ γνώμης. Take the initiative, v.: P. and V. ἄρχειν. Be first: P. and V. φθάνειν.
