v. trans.
P. and V. αἴρειν, ἐξαίρειν, ἐπαίρειν, ἀνάγειν, ἀνέχειν, V. βαστάζειν. Raise: P. and V. ἀνιστάναι, ἐξανιστάναι, ὀρθοῦν (rare P.), V. ἀνακουφίζειν, Ar. and V. κουφίζειν (rare P.); see raise. Take up: P. and V. ἀναιρεῖσθαι. Lift one's brows: Ar. and P. ὀφρῦς ἀνασπᾶν. I will stay the spear which I lift against the strangers: V. παύσω δὲ λόγχην ἣν ἐπαίρομαι ξένοις (Eur., I.T. 1484). Lift up (the voice, etc.): P. ἐπαίρειν, Ar. and P. ἐντείνεσθαι. Lift up the voice: V. ὀρθιάζειν (absol.). Lift up the voice in a shout: V. ὀλολυγμὸν ἐπορθιάζειν.
