   A part above the knee, great muscle of the thigh, taken as a sign of strength and vigour, κεν . . μεγάλην ἐπιγουνίδα θεῖτο he would grow a stout thigh-muscle, Od.17.225; οἵην ἐπιγουνίδα φαίνει 18.74,cf.
