   A κατέϝοργον Inscr.Cypr.135.1 H.:—also κατειλ-έργνυμι (v. infr.), Att. also καθείργω, καθείργνυμι (q.v.): fut. -είρξω, Ion. -έρξω:—drive into, shut in, τοὺς περιγενομένους ἐς τὰς νέας κατεῖρξαν Hdt.5.63; κατεργνῦσι [αὐτοὺς] ἐς μέσα τὰ φρύγανα shut them up into the middle of the fire-wood, Id.4.69: generally, press hard, reduce to straits, κατέργοντες πολλὸν τοὺς Ἀθηναίους Id.6.102; besiege, πτόλιν Inscr.Cypr.l.c.:—Pass., to be hemmed in, kept down, ὑπὸ τοῦ δυνατωτέρου Th.1.76; ὑπ' ἀνάγκης D.H.6.2; ὅρκοις -ειργόμενοι ib.45; τὸ πολέμῳ καὶ δεινῷ τινι -ειργόμενον what is done under stress of...
