   A prop, fix, plant firmly, ἐνὶ γαίῃ χηλάς A.R.2.667.    II Hom. only in Med., δὸς δέ μοι [ῥόπαλον], . . σκηρίπτεσθ' to support myself withal, Od.17.196; σκηριπτόμενος χερσίν τε ποσίν τε pressing, pushing against it, with hands and feet, 11.595; so φρίκη ἐν ῥέθεϊ σ. Nic. Th.721; ἐπί τινος Ph.2.274; βακτηρίᾳ ib.317: abs., πῦρ σκηριπτόμενον ὀρθοῦται sustained, ib.512. (Found only in pres.; formed by assimilation of σκήπτω (Ep. only in pres.) to ἐστήρικτο, στηρίξασθαι, etc. (Ep. only in tenses other than pres.).)
