Π.</b>; as interj. Ar. Av. 1258 <b class="b3">εὐράξ</b>, <b class="b3">πατάξ</b>.<br />Origin: XX [etym. unknown]<br />Etymology: Uncertain. On the formation cf. <b class="b3">λάξ</b>, <b class="b3">ὀδάξ</b>, <b class="b3">μουνάξ</b>, <b class="b3">διαμπάξ</b> a. o. (Schwyzer 620). Connected (so still Stolz IF 18, 460f.) with <b class="b3">εὐρύς</b> and explained as <b class="b2">ἐκ πλαγίου</b> (e. g. H.). Acc. to Bq with Meister Herodas 749 however to be read as <b class="b3">δε Ϝράξ</b> und to be understood as <b class="b2">en heurtant</b>, from <b class="b3">ῥάττειν</b>, <b class="b3">ῥάσσειν</b>, <b class="b3">ῥήσσειν</b> [[nudge]], [[bump]]; on the meaning cf. <b class="b3">ἴκταρ</b> [[near]] and parallels mentioned there.
