Lat. <b class="b2">preti-um</b> [[price]], [[worth]], prop. <b class="b2">opposite equivalent</b>, OCS [[protivъ]] [[against]]: IE <b class="b2">*próti</b>, <b class="b2">préti</b>. From there can, first in antevocalic position (<b class="b3">πρότ</b>ι̯), through assibilation the usual <b class="b3">πρός</b> (and <b class="b3">πρές</b>) have arisen; final -(<b class="b3">ο)ς</b> is found also in <b class="b3">πάρος</b> and <b class="b3">πός</b>. An old [[pres]] Pisani Sprache 7, 103 finds in Messap. [[prespolis]] (meaning unknown; after P. <b class="b2">lord of the house, (house)priest</b>). Beside <b class="b3">προτί</b>, <b class="b3">πρός</b> stand <b class="b3">ποτί</b>, <b class="b3">πός</b>; s. vv.
