Etymology: Morpholog. and etymolog. uncertain. One connects both the words mentioned s. ὅρος frontier and also ὀρύσσω (?) (Kretschmer Glotta 12, 187, Bechtel Lex., who at the same time reminds of OCS rovъ ditch, hole). Further hypotheses w. lit. in WP. 2, 352 f., W.-Hofmann s. aperiō, also Forbes Glotta 36, 247; older lit. in Bq.
