Appease: P. and V. πραύνειν, P. παραμυθεῖσθαι, V. παρηγορεῖν, θέλγειν (also Plat. but rare P.), μαλθάσσειν, Ar. and V. μαλάσσειν; see also reconcile. In military sense, reduce to order: P. and V. καταστρέφεσθαι.
