   A -εσκον Q.S.7.340: aor. ἴηνα Od.8.426, Dor. ἴᾱνα Pi.O.7.43:—Pass., aor. ἰάνθην Il.23.598, etc. [ῐ, exc. in augm. tenses, in Hom.; but at the beginning of a verse ῑ without augm., Od.22.59: ῑ freq. in later Poets, AP12.95 (Mel.), Q.S. l.c., 4.402, 10.327, Orph.L.268, etc.]:—heat, ἀμφὶ δέ οἱ πυρὶ χαλκὸν ἰήνατε Od. 8.426:—Pass., ἰαίνετο δ' ὕδωρ 10.359.    2 melt, ἰαίνετο κηρός 12.175: metaph., θυμὸν ἰαίνειν melt the heart, Il.24.119.    b relax by warmth, Hp.Mul.1.69 (Pass.).    3 more freq.
