[[lap-zi]] [[glow]], <b class="b2">lap-nu-zi</b> [[bring in glow]], [[kindle]] (MudgeLang. 7, 252, Benveniste BSL 33, 140). Further, with long vowel, IE. <b class="b2">*lāp-</b> or <b class="b2">*lōp-</b>, some Baltic words for [[torch]], [[flame]]: Lith. <b class="b2">lópė</b>, Latv. [[lāpa]], OPruss. [[lopis]]; with short <b class="b2">a-</b>vowel, but deviating in auslaut, Celt., OIr. [[lassaim]] [[flame]], Welsh [[llachar]] [[glow]], which can go back on <b class="b2">*laps-</b>. - Further combinations in Bq and WP. 2, 383; also Fraenkel Wb. s. <b class="b2">lópė</b>. Cf. also [[λοφνίς]]. It is doubtful whether this material proves IE origin. On [[λαμψάνη]] s. v., id. [[λοφνίς]]. Are <b class="b3">λαμπ-ηδών</b>, <b class="b3">λαμπ-υρίς</b> Greek? A nasal present is also difficult (<b class="b2">*lh₂mp-?</b>).
