[[δῆλος]]) thinks that the identification of [[δέελος]] with [[δῆλος]] is a mistake of ancient grammarians. Note that [[δέαλος]] could well have been used in this place. "the presence of [[τε]] after [[σῆμα]] obliges to see [[δέελον]] as a substantive." Hesychius gives the right form. It is derived from [[δέω]] [[bind]], with the suffix <b class="b3">-ελο-</b>, i.e. <b class="b2">*deh₁-elo-</b>. It could have meant (French) [[lien]]. (He also gives another possibility, which seems less probable to me.) Cf. also [[δῆλος]].
