The gods: P. ἱλάσκεσθαι (Plat.). Appease: P. and V. πραΰνειν, P. παραμυθεῖσθαι, V. παρηγορεῖν, θέλγειν (also Plat. but rare P.), μαλθάσσειν, Ar. and V. μαλάσσειν.
