[Seite 1107] adv., wie τῆλε, fern, weitab, in der Ferne oder Fremde; Hom. u. Hes. oft; τηλοῦ ἐπ' Ἀλφειῷ, Il. 11, 712; auch c. gen., Τροίην τηλοῦ φασιν Αχαιΐδος ἔμμεναι αἴης, Od. 13, 249, wie 23, 68; τῶν ἀγρῶν, Ar. Nubb. 139; τηλοῦ ἀπό τινος, Hes. Th. 204; sp. D. Die auch den andern Wörtern τηλόθι, τηλόθεν, τηλόσε u. dem compar. u. superl. τηλοτέρω, τηλοτάτω zu Grunde liegende Form τηλός kommt nicht mehr vor; Apoll. Dysc. nimmt τῆλυ an, das sich in τηλύγετος erhalten habe. Verwandt ist es mit τέλος, vgl. Orion p. 152, 4; Butt. Lexil. II p. 201; vielleicht auch mit telum. Andere führen es auf τείνω, τάω zurück.
