   A voice, in Hom. always of the gods, ταῦτα θεῶν ἐκ πεύσεται ὀμφῆς Il.20.129 ; ἐπισπόμενοι θεοῦ ὀμφῇ Od.3.215,16.96 ; θείη δέ μιν ἀμφέχυτ' ὀ., of the voice of the dream sent by Zeus to Agamemnon, Il.2.41 ; oracle delivered from the inner shrine at Pytho, Thgn.808 ; τρίποδος Philostr.Im.2.19 ; κληροῦν ὀμφάν (v. κληρόω 11.2) ; signified by the flight of birds, ὀ. οἰωνοῖο A.R.3.939 : also in pl., κατ' ὀμφὰς τὰς Ἀπόλλωνος S.OC102 ; κατ' ὀμφὴν σήν on hearing thy message, ib.550, cf. 1351.    2 sweet, tuneful voice, Pi.Fr.152 ; ὀμφαὶ μελέων ib.75.19 ; ἁδεῖαι . . ὀμφαί Id.N.10.34, cf. Gal.14.74. (In sense 1 cogn. with Engl. song : in sense 11 with ONorse anga 'give out a sweet scent', angi 'scent', ang 'pleasant sensation'.)
