One tried to connect <b class="b3">κρήνη</b> with <b class="b3">κρουνός</b> [[spring]] (s. v.), <b class="b3">κροῦναι κρῆναι τέλειαι</b> H.; IE. basis then <b class="b2">*krosno-</b>, resp. (for <b class="b3">κρήνη</b>) <b class="b2">-kr̥snā</b>. With <b class="b3">κρουνός</b>, <b class="b3">κροῦναι</b> may agree a Germanic word for [[wave]], [[flood]] except the stem-ending, resp. the accent, OWNo. <b class="b2">hrǫnn</b> f., OE [[hræn]], [[hærn]] f., PGm. <b class="b2">*hraznṓ</b>, IE. <b class="b2">*krosnā́</b>. - Other wrong etymologies in Bq s.v.; s. also WP. 1, 488 f.
