Gr. 1, 546; cf. also <b class="b3">φροίμιον</b> [s. <b class="b3">οἴμη</b>] and <b class="b3">ἄοιμος</b>), an IE basis <b class="b2">*oi-mo-</b> : Skt. <b class="b2">é-man-</b> n. [[path]], [[walk]] (to <b class="b3">εἶμι</b>; Curtius 401, also Schwyzer 381) cannot be considered as probable. Against the modification therefor proposed by Sommer Lautst. 29 <b class="b2">*oi-s-mo-</b> (to Lith. <b class="b2">eimė̃</b> f. [[going]], [[stride]], [[movement]]) Osthoff Arch. f. Religionswiss. 11, 63, who earlier (BB 24, 168 ff.) proposed for it <b class="b3">*Ϝοῖ-μο-ς</b>, to <b class="b3">ἵεμαι</b> [[move forward]] (s. v.). Diff. Schulze Kl. Schr. 665: to <b class="b3">οἱρών</b> <b class="b3">εὑθυωρία</b>' (s.v.); on this cf. Specht KZ 66, 27 n. 3. -- Here perh. also [[οἴμη]], s. v. DELG frankly calls the origin [[obscure]].
