Etymology: Formation like ἀτταγᾶς, ἐλεᾶς (Schwyzer 461, Chantraine Formation 31f.); prob. from Indian (cf. Hind. hargēla?). With reshaping after κήλη tumour, hump because of its great crop, Thompson Birds s. v.; on the accent see Björck Alpha impurum 63 A. 2.
