Nachr. 1919, 345f. and Dial. 1, 306 from <b class="b3">κολοιός</b> and <b class="b3">φάρυξ</b> with the unstressed <b class="b3">α</b> pushed out, so prop. "with the throat of a jackdaw". From the animal the name would have passed to the montain. <b class="b3">-φρυξ</b> might have retained then an old zero grade, s. on <b class="b3">φάρυγξ</b> (improbable). - The PN <b class="b3">Κολοιφων</b> (IG 5 : 2, 425, 3) explaine B. similarly as "who has the appearnce of a <b class="b3">κολοιός</b>".
