On <b class="b3">σκόλυβος</b> s. below<br />Derivatives: <b class="b3">σκολυμ-ώδης</b> <b class="b3">σ</b>.-like' (Thphr.).<br />Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin] (V)<br />Etymology: Unexplained. On the formation cf. <b class="b3">ἔλυμος</b> and the many plant-names in <b class="b3">-αμος</b>, <b class="b3">-αμον</b>, e.g. <b class="b3">κύαμος</b>, <b class="b3">βάλσαμον</b>, which are most loans without etymology.
