Schr. 2, 1128f.); details in Bechtel Lex. s.v.<br />Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]<br />Etymology: The basis of <b class="b3">λέχριος</b> may have been a <b class="b3">ρ(ο</b>)-stem <b class="b3">*λεχρ(ο</b>)- of unknown meaning; adducing <b class="b3">λεκροί</b> [[beside]] <b class="b3">λικροί οἱ ὄζοι τῶν ἐλαφείων κεράτων</b>, with further <b class="b3">λί(γ)ξ πλάγιος</b> H., and of <b class="b3">λοξός</b> [[slanting]] requires an orig. <b class="b3">*λεκ-σ-ρ-</b> (cf. Schwyzer 327); further s. <b class="b3">λοξός</b>. Cf. also on <b class="b3">λεκάνη</b>, <b class="b3">λέκος</b>. The forms <b class="b3">λεκροί</b> \/ <b class="b3">λικροί</b> and also <b class="b3">λι(γ)ξ</b> seem to point to Pre-Greek forms, to which we should add <b class="b3">λικριφίς</b>. Assuming IE forms with and without <b class="b3">-σ-</b> side by side is much more difficult than assumeing <b class="b3">κ</b>\/<b class="b3">χ</b> (and <b class="b3">ε</b>\/<b class="b3">ι</b> and prenasalisation) for Pre-Greek.
