[[membra]] n. pl. [[bodyparts]] (Bezzenberger BB 1, 340 f.); basis then <b class="b2">*mēms-r-ā</b>. A nasalless form <b class="b2">*mēs-r-</b> however is as for OIr. [[mīr]] [[piece]], [[bite]] also possible and phonetically rather to be preferred (cf. Schwyzer 282). The phonetically reminding Slav. word, e.g. Russ. <b class="b2">myazdrá</b> [[fleshy side of the skin]] is both in meaning and in form difficult to connect, s. Vasmer s. v. The basis would have been a word for [[flesh]], IE <b class="b2">*mēms(-o</b>)- n. in Skt. <b class="b2">māṃsá-</b>, Goth.
