The old but rare meaning`shoot of a plant' can without difficulty be understood as metaphor (cf. Strömberg Theophrastea 50 f.; not right on <b class="b3">μόσχος</b> ibd. 52). The comparison <b class="b3">μόσχος</b> <b class="b2">shoot of a plant</b> = Lith. <b class="b2">mãzgas</b> <b class="b2">knob of a tree</b> (Fick 1, 518 u.a.), where <b class="b3">μόσχος</b> [[calf]] together with Arm. [[mozi]] would have to be separated, is unnecessary, as the meaning [[knob]] originated from [[round]], [[hard raising]], [[knob]] (to <b class="b2">mègsti</b> [[knot]]). Opp. H. 1, 307; Redard 83).<br />Origin: LW [a loanword which is (probably) not of Pre-Greek origin] Iran.<br />Etymology: From Pers. [[mušk]] <b class="b2">id.</b> (from Skt. <b class="b2">muṣkáḥ</b> m.
