Because of the verb <b class="b3">σκομβρίζειν</b>, which seems toexpress a sound, Strömberg Fischnamen 73 f. wants to consider also <b class="b3">σκόμβρος</b> as as an expression of a sound and to connect it with <b class="b3">κόμβησαν</b> (s. [[κόμβα]]) and <b class="b3">κόμπος</b>; more than uncertain. Russ. <b class="b2">skomlítь</b> <b class="b2">cry slowly</b> etc. (Prellwitz s.v.) remains far; s. Vasmer s.v. -- Lat. LW [loanword] [[scomber]], Russ. LW [loanword] <b class="b2">skúmbrija</b> (from NGr. <b class="b3">σκουμβρί</b>, pl. <b class="b3">-ιά</b>) etc.; s.
