The formally obcious connection with <b class="b3">σαίνω</b> (Solmsen IF 30, 46 f.) depends of a s. v. rejected explanation of <b class="b3">σαίνω</b>. A thinkable but quite hypothetic basis <b class="b2">*tu̯-n̥-id-</b> [would have to be <b class="b2">*tu̯n̥H-id-</b>] might make connection with the family of <b class="b3">τύλη</b>, <b class="b3">τύλος</b> (s. v.) possible. -- Older proposals in Bq and WP. 1, 709 (rejected).
