One tried to connect <b class="b3">κρήνη</b> with <b class="b3">κρουνός</b> [[spring]] (s. v.), <b class="b3">κροῦναι κρῆναι τέλειαι</b> H.; IE. basis then <b class="b2">*krosno-</b>, resp. (for <b class="b3">κρήνη</b>) <b class="b2">-kr̥snā</b>.
