Frisk proposes a cross of <b class="b3">μάσταξ</b> with <b class="b3">μύλλον</b> [[lip]] (s. v.) "beside other popular words with sound-imitating <b class="b3">μῦ</b>"; cf. Chantraine Form. 377 (wit Johansson IF 14, 333). - The variation <b class="b3">μ-</b>\/<b class="b3">β-</b>, and <b class="b3">μύττακες</b>, proves Pre-Greek origin; Fur. 218, 304.
