Cer.).<br />Derivatives: <b class="b3">ναρκίσσινος</b> <b class="b2">made from narcissus, nacissus-coloured</b> (Hp., Dsc., pap.), <b class="b3">-ίτης</b> name of a stone (D. P., Plin.; because of the colour or the smell?; cf. Redard 58).<br />Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]<br />Etymology: Connection with <b class="b3">νάρκη</b> has been considered because of the appeasing effect of the plant (Picard Mél. Navarre 328 n. 7; thus already Plu. 2, 647 b), either with the foreign <b class="b3">σσο-</b>suffix (after <b class="b3">κυπάρισσος</b>?) or through folketymological adaptation of a foreign word.
