H. <b class="b3">νῶροψ λαμπρός</b>, <b class="b3">ὀξύφωνος</b>, <b class="b3">ἔνηχος</b>. <b class="b3">η ὅτι την ὄψιν ἀσθενῆ ποιεῖ</b>), so without explanation. Often connected with <b class="b3">ἀνήρ</b>, so esp. by Kuiper (s. <b class="b3">ἀνήρ</b>). Acc. to Bechtel Lex. s.v. to <b class="b3">νωρεῖ ἐνεργεῖ</b> H., Lith. <b class="b2">nóriu</b>, <b class="b2">-ė́ti</b> [[will]] etc., which have also been compared with with <b class="b3">ἀνήρ</b>; s. except Kuiper l.c. WP. 2, 332f., Pok. 765, W.-Hofmann s. [[neriōsus]]. (But one would expect <b class="b2">*nuoras</b>, Fraenkel s.v.) Quite diff. Kretschmer Glotta 32, 3 ff. with Epaphroditos of Chaeroneia: to <b class="b3">Νώρακος πόλις Παννονὶας</b>, "<b class="b3">ὅτι γίνεται ἐν Παννονίᾳ σίδηρος</b>". - The suffix <b class="b3">-οπ-</b> may point to a Pre-Greek word (Kuiper suggest ed that it was taken from <b class="b3">αἴθοπι</b>.)
