[[sollicitus]] [[be in danger]]) gives semantically only one theoretical possibility. Hypothetical is also the proposal by Schulzes (in Sittig KZ 52, 207f.; agreeing a. o. Schwyzer 335, Specht KZ 66, 5), that [[κίνδυνος]] is an old expression of the game of dices with assimilation for <b class="b3">*κύνδυνος</b>, from [[κύων]] as designation of an unsuccessful throw (as Skt. <b class="b2">śvan-</b>, Lat. [[canis]]; cf. on [[Κανδαύλης]]) and a word for <b class="b2">dice, -game</b> in Skt. <b class="b2">dī́vyati</b> [[dice]], <b class="b2">dyūtá-</b> n. <b class="b2">-game</b>; both phonetically and morphologically doubtfull, s.
