One tried to connect [[κρήνη]] with [[κρουνός]] [[spring]] (s. v.), <b class="b3">κροῦναι κρῆναι τέλειαι</b> H.; IE. basis then <b class="b2">*krosno-</b>, resp. (for [[κρήνη]]) <b class="b2">-kr̥snā</b>.
